Monika Nowak: An Exclusive Interview with A.I.M.O.
Your artwork is so colorful and certainly identifies with the genre of Pop Art. Have you always had a passion for Pop Art? If so, what drew you to your subject matter of superimposing the mixed medias?
The Art that most impressed me is the Egyptian art. It's like a cartoon with characters who live scenes, running around on the walls of temples or tombs. The bright colors , fine lines crisp , beautiful bodies and faces , a form of naive and touching purity, here is my first shot of artistic heart!
What is your favorite subject matter and why?
Joy! I love pictures that makes me smile like a face beaming with joy. I strongly believe in the power of intention and image. I have no message to convey through my art, everyone is free to project what he or she wants to. I do not like to impose an idea, it's probably my free and wild side, so I do not like to impose my own ideas onto others. This is probably not the answer you expected , because people like the "labels" and messages , they like to be told stories. I am on the opposite side as I feel it is your own story that interests me through how you perceive my creations .
What artists inspire you?
Tamara de Lempicka and Roy Lichtenstein.
What is your medium of choice and are there any that intimidate you?
Having worked for years for communication agencies creative departments in creating , my tools are digital , it allows me to create without worrying about hardware constraints . The idea of creating sculpture intimidates me, the size of the rough stone, one that requires dexterity and mastery power.
If you could collaborate with any artist, deceased or alive, who would it be with and why?
Collaborate no , but I wish I had a picture of me painted by Da Vinci! Then I would like to work with photos by Helmut Newton, absolute class!
What is next for you? Upcoming shows?
I am fortunate to have a great agent in England, Simon Skint. He always manages to find incredible exhibits paces, currently four works are presented in Street Ibiza, a temporary exhibition on the island of Ibiza. I like the idea that my "crazy pop girls" see the country. I also will be part of the Moniker Art Fair London in early October. I am also in a beautiful gallery in Cannes right now and all summer , the Vieceli Gallery.
